There have been many version of the tragic love story of Mirza and Sahiban, but all of them focus on the ‘betrayal’ of Sahiban and more on the death of Mirza.

Following one is thought provoking as it is written from different point of view:

ਤੀਰ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਂ ਨੇ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਮਿਰਜ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਗਵਾਈ,

ਇਕ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਕਰਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਨ ਸੱਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਚਾਈ,

ਜੇ ਤੋੜੇ ਨਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਤੀਰ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਂ ਨੇ, ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਨਾ ਸੁਹਾਗਣ ਇਕ ਵੀ ਭਰਜਾਈ,

ਮਾੜੀ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਤੀ, ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਹੋਣੀ ਨੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ,

ਮਾੜੀ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦੀ, ਜੇ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਬਚਾਈ,

ਨਾਲ ਯਾਰ ਦੇ ਆਪ ਵੀ ਮਰ ਕੇ, ਸਾਹਿਬਾਂ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਸੱਚੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਿਭਾਈ।

This can be expressed fully only by following bunch of couplets.

“ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਮਜਨੂੰ ਨੂੰ, ਓਏ ਤੇਰੀ ਲੈਲਾ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਕਾਲ਼ੀ ਵੇ,

ਮਜਨੂੰ ਓਸ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤੇਰੀ ਅੱਖ ਨਾ ਵੇੱਖਣ ਵਾਲ਼ੀ ਏ,

ਆਖੇ, ਵੇਦ ਵੀ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਤੇ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਵੀ ਚਿੱਟੀ, ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ਼ ਸਿਆਹੀ ਕਾਲ਼ੀ ਵੇ,

ਗੁਲਾਮ ਫਰੀਦਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ ਲਡ਼ੀਆਂ, ਓਥੇ ਕੀ ਗੋਰੀ ਕੀ ਕਾਲ਼ੀ ਏ।”

 

Translation of the above goes like this, (I apologize in advance for my extremely limited translation capabilities):

Your Laila is black in colour, O Majnu, asked someone,

Majnu replied, You lack the depth of vision to see her real beauty,

Veds and Holy Quran are both made from white pages but its the very black ink which decorates them and give them their meaning,

Such temporal features dont count in love , O Ghulam Farid.

If we have to take just one person to represent Indian film fraternity, the unanimous choice will be Aamir Khan. He is All-in-one of films. An accomplished actor, a part time singer and an promising director/producer. He redefined parenting in gone December with Taare Zameen Par. A matchless movie. It perfectly gives the right message I.e. How to be a good parent without all the boring lectures we’ve heard in other flicks. The dialogues and scenes are quite exceptional and touching. Especially the scene in which Ishan’s father is told by his mentor/teacher Ram, the true meaning of taking care. It is a must see film for everyone who is grown-up-child, parents-to-be and parents.

If the acting and theme of the film is the body of the flick then music by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy is the soul of the flick. The songs are original, emotional and very touching. This has to be the best work of Prasoon Joshi so far.

Since gaming is my passion, i cannot stay away much longer from them. Gaming after all these years has mixed with my blood like an alchohal in an alchoholic. Earlier it was Ragnarok India. Since that gaming server is in the tatters now, i am now hooked to something called World of Warcraft. And this game is humongous. It a total different universe with fantasy based theme. Those who have seen or read Lord of the Rings Trilogy will be familiar with races like Night Elves, Dwarfs, Gnomes, Orcs, Trolls & Undeads. And it continues the WC saga right after Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (WCIII:TFT). At the moment I am playing a Tauren Druid with players from India. The best part about WoW (World of Warcraft) is that its quest system and PvP system are quite comprehensive and interesting. Apart from one or two quests, i’ve not encountered quest that involves intense grinding.

Its so much popular nowadays that Southpark featured a full episode around this epic game : Make Love not Warcraft

Kudos to Blizzard for making such a comprehensive MMORPG.

This is another melodious song in teh voice of teh Mohit Chauhan (Silkroute fame).

And I am quite gripped by this song. Its simple and without going for complex words found in usually in ghazals is able to convey mood of the song. “Tera naa hona, jaane kyun hona hi hai” – accurately depicts the feeling experienced by ones in love. I could not have said it more simply. Good lyrics are only half part of a good song. They are nothing if not sung in proper manner. Mohit Chauhan does this job superbly. His voice is suitably ecstatic for this song.

We use them everyday and in every sphere of life. But why does our currency notes have only picture of one person on them? From 10 to 1000, its all picture of one person. Did we attained freedom by only sole efforts of one man? Or is it that like every other politician, our bureaucrats have also forgotten the contribution of other men & women in freedom struggle.

Look at the various denominations of the dollar – It has full range of its forefathers and important persons portrayed on them.

When the whole nation is literally euphoric on re-discovering the Father of Nation, why this discrimination against the sons and the daughters of India? I am unable to understand the reason for this apathy. Where are the portraits of likes of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Subash Chandra Bose, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Shaheed Udham Singh, Mangal Pandey, Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Lala Lajpat Rai, Chandrashekhar Azad, Sardar Patel, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and the list goes on…….

Bah! When Indian Govt. will start paying attention to such matters?

This Ghazal is in the memory of past ‘good’ memories. Ghulam Ali has been blessed with such a wonderful voice. No one could have sung this ghazal better than him. Such ghazals are tailor-made for him. The writer has done a beautiful job in composing this prose. The combination of Ghulam Ali’s deep voice, this poetic ghazal happens to touch depths of my heart. That is why it happens to be in my favourite list.

This one featured in some old movie called Nikah. I am clueless about its writer.

There is apparently a longer version sung by Ghulam Ali (again) and above mentioned one is the shorter one made for movie obviously due to consideration of ghazal duration.

If anyone by any chance happen to know meaning of “Dafatan”, please tell me. And also the writer of this ghazal is unknown to me.

This is teh first one, though its own originality can be quite debated (More Information). Nevertheless its a power packed song, enough to make anyone dance.

Just when I’d thought the Ghazal genre had died atleast in the bollywood movies – this came from nowhere. It is a real gem as far as lyrics and its presentation are concerned . And no – this does not come from any established name. The singer is Mohit Chauhan who used to be(or is) lead singer of Silkroute of Dooba Dooba fame. To make things more interesting the writer happens to be someone called Mr.Rocky Khanna and movie is none other than big dud at BO -Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh. Now this movie infact is not a boring movie at all. Infact its as good as those flashy KKKK movies except the flashy part .

Its catchy lyrics keep you humming. Guncha AFAIK means Bouquet. Nice choice of words to describe the love.
